About

The Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center (ADRC) is a Long Island nonprofit that supports people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, along with the relatives who care for them. ADRC is now affiliated with CaringKind, a New York dementia caregiving organization, and operates as CaringKind's Long Island office under Executive Director Lauren Vlachos. Families can call a Long Island helpline for information and guidance, and dementia specialists offer one-on-one consultations and coaching for caregivers dealing with stress or difficult behaviors. Programs include caregiver support and bereavement groups, a small group program for spouses and relatives adjusting to a new diagnosis, a grief and loss series for families facing advanced dementia, early-stage programs for people recently diagnosed, and education and training for family and professional caregivers. Help is available from diagnosis through end of life, and the programs are offered free of charge.
